MUNCIE — Emily Turza, 14, and her friends have had enough of being like everyone else. They’re ready to express their love of Jesus Christ out loud, even it makes them seem “not normal.”

“Sometimes, like at school, you kind of keep your faith hidden or just not open as you want to because you don’t want to be called a ‘Jesus freak’ or something like that,” said the Rensselaer native. “But I’m learning (at Acquire the Fire) that I don’t have to hide my commitment to Jesus. I can take it and spread it to everyone by being myself. That’s what’s making me so excited. I don’t have be like everyone else.”

Acquire the Fire, the annual Christian youth conference, was held at Worthen Arena this weekend, inspiring young people from across the Midwest not only to follow Christ’s example in terms of loving others, but also when it comes to conforming to society.

“Normal is not enough” was the theme for this year’s event, with speakers and musicians using Jesus as the example of someone who did not go along to get along during his day.
